Regina Word Up Pride Stage feat. MelVee X

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
Our annual Regina Word Up Pride Stage is an opportunity to share your work with an appreciative crowd. For this event, we prioritize and centre queer expression on this stage: we encourage sharing queer content or any content for folks who identify as 2SLGBTQ+. Everyone is welcome in the audience!

Each performer receives 5 minutes to share their work, ending at 8 p.m. We appreciate audience members to be encouraging and excited -- snap your fingers, type into the chat, shout to your delight (because you'll be muted during the performance!)

The Pride Stage opens the night followed by a feature performance by MelVee X. This event will not be recorded.

We suggest signing up in advance by sending us a message to secure a performance spot. Space permitting, you may sign up by messaging the Zoom host when you arrive.

MelVee X (she/they) is a self-taught Black queer multidisciplinary artist and CEO of MVX STUDIOS - a hub for equitable creative and artistic expression based in Calgary, AB. Her primary means of expression are spoken word poetry, burlesque performance and photography - the MelVee trifecta.

She's been a professional artist for over five years and her work has been featured locally and nationally. It is MelVee's vision and guiding principle to empower equity and justice-seeking communities to tell our own stories from our perspectives. She is proudly Black and celebrates her Afro-Caribbean roots in her work. The struggle is real, unapologetic and never looked so good.

At the Creative City Centre we always strive for inclusivity and respect in the community both inside and out of our facility, which is why we have compiled the following guidelines to remember both for our events and also in everyday life.
• We encourage respecting the way folks self-identify, without assuming gender, sexuality, orientation, religion, or ability.
• We understand that at times folks may need to leave or engage in other methods of self-care, and that’s okay.
• We encourage language that promotes inclusivity, education, and awareness and dislike all forms of explicit ignorance including, but not limited to, hate speech, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and classism.
• We encourage the culture of consent meaning we respect people’s physical, verbal, and emotional boundaries. This means respecting that some people might not want to be hugged and if you want to engage physically in any way with a person it is important to ask permission before doing so.

This Regina Pride event is funded by Queen City Pride. Regina Word Up is a program of the Creative City Centre.
