Blood donations play an essential role in saving lives every day.

However, despite always being in demand, men who have sex with other men (MSM) and trans women who have not undergone gender-affirming surgery and who have sex with other trans women or men, who would otherwise be qualified to donate, are prevented from contributing to Canada’s blood supply.

As of 2019, the exclusion period for MSMs, which also affects trans women and some non-binary people, was reduced to three months, down from one year.

The Ally Blood Donation Clinic is our way to draw attention to the issues while still encouraging people to donate blood. The work that CBS performs is essential for our healthcare system, but that doesn't mean our community shouldn't advocate for evidence-based screening criteria that don't discriminate or exclude people based on their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

Sign up an ally to donate on your behalf. Let's bring an end to the ban on blood donations.
